Frequently Asked Questions
What does it cost?
15 minute initial consultations are free
50 minute individual sessions are $140 per session
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes! I offer a limited number of sliding scale spaces, which may have a waiting list. Availability can change, so if a sliding scale rate would make therapy more accessible for you, please feel free to reach out and ask. I’m happy to let you know what may be available. It never hurts to ask!
Do you accept insurance?
I don’t offer direct billing to insurance companies, but many insurance plans provide reimbursement for Registered Psychotherapy. After each session, you’ll receive a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Coverage varies between plans, so I recommend checking with your provider beforehand to confirm what your plan covers.
Do you offer in-person therapy?
At this time, my practice is entirely virtual, which means you can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space without adding a commute to your day. Virtual therapy also offers a little more flexibility and convenience, making it easier to fit sessions into your day-to-day life.
Is virtual therapy confidential and secure?
Yes. I use Jane’s secure Telehealth platform for virtual sessions, which uses encryption and is designed to meet applicable privacy and security standards, including PHIPA and PIPEDA. I take reasonable steps to protect your privacy and confidentiality, just as I would with in-person therapy. As part of getting started, I’ll also share a few simple tips for creating a private and comfortable space for your sessions.
What if I feel you’re not the right fit for me?
That’s completely okay! Finding the right therapist is a personal process, and sometimes the best fit is with me, and sometimes it isn’t. My priority is making sure you get the support that’s right for you, even if that means helping you find someone else. If you ever feel like we’re not the right fit, I encourage you to share your feelings with me. There will be absolutely no judgment and no hard feelings. I’m happy to help you explore other options and, when appropriate, connect you with a therapist who may be a better fit for what you’re looking for. What matters most is that you find support that feels right for you.
What happens in a first session?
Your first session is really about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what’s been going on in your life, and what you’d like to be different. I’ll ask some questions to help me understand the bigger picture, but this isn’t an interrogation and you don’t need to arrive with everything figured out!
We’ll also talk about what you’re hoping to get from therapy and start thinking together about where we might go from there. Most importantly, it’s a chance for you to get a feel for what it’s like to work with me and decide whether I feel like the right fit for you. We can take it at your pace.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
This is something a lot of people wonder about before their first session. You don’t need to come to therapy with a list of topics or know exactly what you want to work on. I’ll help guide the conversation, and we can figure things out together. Sometimes the most useful place to start is simply with what’s been on your mind lately.
How often will we meet?
This depends on what you’re looking for and what feels manageable for you. Many clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions, but we’ll work together to find a frequency that makes sense for your goals, needs, finances, and schedule. We can always adjust as things change.
